Instructions for saving examination results
from SIMS to disk


PLEASE NOTE:

The following instructions relate to the SIMS Exams Organiser module as from August 2004.

Previous instruction for the old SIMS exams module are available HERE.

  1. From the Tools menu button at the top of the screen select "Import Results"
     
    Select the filenames one by one and import them into the system. Then close the Import dialogue box.

  2. From the Reports menu button at the top of the screen select "Results" and then "Export Results" which is the bottom option.

  3. A box will appear with various parameters that need filling in.  
    1. SEASON  
      Choose "Summer 2004".
    2. GROUP  
      Choose "Curriculum Yr13" for Year 13 candidates or the appropriate group for GCSE.
    3. LEVEL  
      Choose "Advanced" to get just A2 results or "All" to get all their results. Similarly choose a GCSE option for GCSE results.
    4. SELECT BY AWARD  
      Choose "Grade" to get just the examination result for each candidate.
    5. SERIES  
      Choose "All".
    6. PROCESS  
      Choose "Results".
    7. ELEMENT TYPE  
      Choose "All Results".
    8. ORDER  
      Choose "Name".
  4. Then move to the bottom half of the screen and for "SELECTIONS"   choose "All".
    Then click on the UPDATE button.
    The EXPORT button should now be available; click on this button.  
    At the Save As dialogue box state where you want to save your file. You can either select to save to the floppy drive at this point or save elsewhere and copy the file to floppy later.  
    Type in a suitable filename, such as "Year13" or "Year11" and click on the Save button.

    That should be all that's required. If you are saving more than one file to the same disk please remember to save each file with a different name or you will overwrite the data in the first file ie. A:\GCSE04.csv and A:\Alevel04.csv

Additional information required

  1. A list of pupil names indicating gender, particularly important if the Sims information only includes pupil initials.
  2. Some indicator information, such as standardised test scores (or KS3 results) for GCSE or GCSE results for A level analysis. This latter may be provided in the form of a SIMS file or a typed list.
